THE remains of overseas Filipino worker Marjorette Garcia who was killed in Saudi Arabia arrived in the Philippines earlier today, October 13, 2023.
House Committee Chair on Migrant Workers Affairs Rep. Ron Salo and Administrator Arnell Ignacio of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) were among the officials who joined the bereaved family in receiving her remains. They assured her family that all the necessary assistance and benefits due them will be provided by government.
Salo personally joins family of Garcia in receiving her remains
“I expressed my heartfelt condolences to the family of Marjorette Garcia during this incredibly difficult time. The family of Marjorette was so devastated upon seeing her casket. It was a heartbreaking sight,” Rep. Ron Salo said.
“The tragic loss of a fellow Filipino, away from her loved ones as she dedicated her life working overseas, deeply saddens us. We want to assure her family and the public that the Philippine authorities will ensure that justice will be served on her perpetrator,” Salo added.
Assisted by OWWA Region 1 Office, Marjorette’s mother, husband and siblings travelled to Manila from Pangasinan to personally receive her remains. Administrator Arnell Ignacio and Deputy Administrator Honey Quino were also present. From the airport, it will be transported to Pangasinan.
“She dedicated her life working in a foreign land to support her family. She established great relations with her employer and represented the Filipino people with utmost dignity and outstanding character befitting of a modern day hero,” Salo stated.
The remains of Garcia will be given a hero’s welcome in her hometown in San Jacinto, Pangasinan.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Marjorette’s loved ones as they go through these trying times,” Salo concluded.
