OWWA: Remains of three OFWs perished in Kuwait fire to arrive in PH on Monday

admin June 17, 2024

THE remains of three overseas Filipino workers killed in Kuwait dorm fire in southern Kuwait’s Mangaf area will arrive in the Philippines next week, authorities said Sunday.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said in a statement the remains of the three Filipinos will be repatriated to the Philippines by Monday afternoon, June 17.

It said OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio ordered the OWWA Kuwait Post to prepare the letter of acceptance of the next of kin and other pertinent documents for their remains’ immediate return to the country.

Ignacio also instructed OWWA’s regional welfare offices to reach out to the victims’ relatives to give help and support.

He said OWWA has also contacted the relatives of other Filipinos affected by the fire.

Three of the 11 OFWs affected by the fire in a building housing for a Kuwaiti construction company died while 2 others are in critical condition in the hospital.

All six others are all safe and unharmed as they were “far away from the incident,” Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said in a news forum in Quezon City on Saturday.

He said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also ordered DMW to closely coordinate with the families of the two OFWs still in the intensive care unit in Kuwait.
