THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced on Friday the successful extradition of an overseas Filipino worker from Bahrain, where he had been arrested to face serious rape charges in the Philippines.
The man, classified as a fugitive, is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by Branch 5 of the Family Court in Trece Martires City, Cavite, for two counts of rape committed against his own daughter.
According to case details presented by the NBI, the crimes took place in 2015 and 2016, during periods when the suspect returned home from work abroad. Investigators revealed the brutality of the incidents, noting that the father resorted to intimidation and violence to force his victim into submission. “He pointed a knife at his daughter and used it to threaten and frighten her while he assaulted her on two separate visits,” the handling agent disclosed during the briefing.
Following a formal request from the victim and her representatives, the NBI coordinated with international law enforcement agencies to track the suspect down. This led to the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice published last January 27, which eventually resulted in his apprehension in Bahrain. After legal procedures were completed with Bahraini authorities, a team from the NBI flew to bring him back, taking him into custody immediately upon landing at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 last May 21.
The accused is now detained at the NBI facility inside Building 14 of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, where he will remain pending his trial. His return marks a successful example of cross‑border cooperation, proving that Filipino nationals cannot evade accountability for heinous crimes by fleeing overseas.
