LONDON – A Filipino seafarer is missing following a collision between a chemical tanker and a container ship in the North Sea.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DWM) confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that the able seaman (AB) was aboard the MV Solong when it collided with the oil tanker Stena Immaculate on March 10, 2025, in the Humber Estuary near Hull, UK.
The collision resulted in a massive explosion and fire at the bow of the MV Solong, where the missing seafarer was last seen.
Eight other Filipino crew members and five Russian crew members were rescued and are currently staying in a hotel in Grimsby. The DWM is working to repatriate the rescued seafarers.
Reports indicate the Russian captain of the MV Solong has been arrested. UK authorities are investigating the cause of the incident in conjunction with the flag states of the involved vessels.
The missing seafarer’s family has been notified by the manning agency, which has pledged to provide daily updates. The DWM is coordinating with the agency and the family to provide support.
