DMW assures public: Exit points, repatriation measures in place for OFWs

admin March 2, 2026

THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has assured the public that exit points and repatriation measures are in place to assist Filipinos affected by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac stated that while mass repatriation is not yet necessary, the DMW, along with other concerned government agencies, remains fully prepared to respond should the situation worsen.

Cacdac emphasized that specific exit points have already been identified for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who have expressed their intention to return home. The DMW is working closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and host countries to facilitate the movement of people through these exit points. The DMW is also coordinating with the Department of National Defense (DND) for the possible use of military assets for assistance, as well as with the private sector for land, sea, and air options for repatriation.

Amid the closure of several airports in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Cacdac assured that the DMW, along with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), is identifying the safest way to deploy augmentation teams to assist affected OFWs, while ensuring full compliance with host countries’ protocols. The government is currently extending basic needs assistance, including food and water, to affected Filipinos. The AKSYON (Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFW na Nangangailangan) fund and OWWA funds are also on standby to support OFWs who have lost their jobs or are experiencing distress due to the conflict.

On-site transport services are available for those who wish to relocate to safer areas, and temporary shelters arranged by the Philippine government and host countries are also accessible. Cacdac noted that there are currently around 20 Filipinos in shelters in Dubai, and designated accommodation facilities are also available outside of the Migrant Workers Office (MWO). The DMW advises Filipinos in affected areas to remain indoors and stay vigilant, and assures them that the government is ready to provide assistance as needed.
