REPRESENTATIVE Jude Acidre of TINGOG Party-list welcomed the safe repatriation of all 17 Filipino crew members of the MV Magic Seas, who survived a missile attack in the Red Sea.
In a statement released on July 15, 2025, Rep. Acidre praised the Philippine government’s swift response, highlighting the coordinated efforts of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in ensuring the crew’s safe return and access to necessary support.
Rep. Acidre expressed gratitude to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. for his leadership in upholding the welfare and protection of Filipino seafarers.
He emphasized the importance of continued support for the returning crew, including medical care, psychosocial services, and reintegration assistance. The representative stressed that the government’s responsibility extends beyond repatriation, emphasizing the need to provide resources for recovery and rebuilding.
The incident, Rep. Acidre noted, underscored the significant risks faced by Filipino seafarers daily. He called for stronger international safeguards and contingency protocols to better protect Filipino seafarers working in volatile and dangerous conditions.
He concluded by expressing his admiration for the courage and resilience of Filipino seafarers and reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting them.
