THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has recommended the filing of criminal charges against Senator Joel Villanueva, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co, former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) undersecretary Roberto Bernardo, former congresswoman Mitch Cajayon, and former DPWH district engineer Henry Alcantara in connection with the flood control projects controversy.
Justice Secretary Boying Remulla stated that the NBI is recommending charges of indirect bribery and malversation of public funds. This recommendation follows discussions between the Department of Justice, the NBI, the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), and whistleblower Henry Alcantara.
The AMLC is also expected to issue a freeze order for the assets of the aforementioned individuals. This development marks a significant step in the investigation into alleged corruption surrounding government infrastructure projects.
