THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested, and subsequently charged, a man accused of ‘sextortion’ in Las Piñas City.
The suspect, identified as Oliver Soriano Torres, allegedly threatened his victim with the exposure of explicit photos and videos unless she agreed to engage in sexual activity.
Torres now faces a litany of charges, including Grave Coercion under Article 282 of the Revised Penal Code, a violation of Republic Act No. 9995 (Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009), a violation of R.A. 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004), all in relation to R.A. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012), and Rape by Sexual Assault under Article 266-A(2) of the RPC, as amended.
He underwent an inquest with the Las Piñas City Prosecutor’s Office on these charges.
The NBI’s Anti-Organized and Transnational Crime Division (NBI-AOTCD) initiated this operation following a complaint from the victim, who reported that Torres had threatened to disseminate her intimate content if she refused to meet him for an illicit encounter.
The suspect had allegedly instructed the victim to rendezvous at his Las Piñas City apartment on October 8, 2023, where the sexual encounter was intended to take place.
Upon learning of the victim’s ordeal, agents of NBI-AOTCD devised an entrapment operation to apprehend the suspect.
On the agreed meeting date, accompanied by NBI-AOTCD operatives, the complainant proceeded to the designated location. The operatives positioned themselves strategically outside the suspect’s apartment and, after a brief period, the complainant provided the pre-arranged signal.
Upon entering the suspect’s apartment, the operatives discovered Torres partially unclothed and in the act of attempting to abuse the victim.
At this critical moment, they promptly placed him under arrest.
