REPRESENTATIVE Joel R. Chua, Third District of Manila, has called on the 19th Congress senators to ensure the continuity of the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte, scheduled to continue after the Senate’s June 30th turnover.
In a statement, Rep. Chua emphasized that the newly elected senators must be prepared to assume their roles as impeachment court judges immediately following the noon transition on June 30, 2025. He recommended that the new senators observe the proceedings beforehand to familiarize themselves with the ongoing trial.
Rep. Chua reiterated his stance that the senators’ legislative duties are separate from their function as impeachment judges, asserting that the trial will proceed without interruption with the newly constituted Senate.
He characterized opposing viewpoints as misinterpretations of the Constitution. He expressed optimism that the 19th Congress senators will follow the correct constitutional procedure, allowing the impeachment trial to continue and ensuring accountability and justice.
