TINGOG party-list demands Climate Accountability and Disaster Resilience

The TINGOG Party-list expressed deep concern over the recent devastating floods and the escalating climate crisis in the country.

The party emphasized that increasingly frequent and severe weather events are no longer anomalies but a grim new reality, highlighting the need for urgent and decisive action.

The statement underscored that the current situation is not a series of isolated incidents but a direct consequence of years of environmental neglect, poor planning, and a lack of accountability at both local and global levels. The party cited its own experience in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) to illustrate the devastating impact of these events on communities.

TINGOG strongly advocates for the creation of a dedicated Department of Disaster Resilience to address the challenges posed by the changing climate.

Such a department, the party argued, would be responsible for leading risk reduction efforts, coordinating disaster response, driving post-disaster recovery, and embedding long-term resilience into government and community planning.

The party stressed that disaster preparedness requires a fundamental shift in governance, construction, and prioritization of public safety, moving from reactive measures to proactive readiness. They emphasized that this is not merely the responsibility of local governments or the military but demands a national-level commitment.

Beyond preparedness, TINGOG also called for climate accountability, demanding that major global polluters be held responsible for their contribution to the climate crisis disproportionately affecting vulnerable nations like the Philippines.

The party insisted that these polluters must provide financial support, technology, and reparations to help address the crisis.

Furthermore, TINGOG urged the government to integrate climate resilience into all public operations and infrastructure, ensuring climate risk assessments for all public projects and equipping every barangay with the necessary resources and training.
