FORMER Bulacan first district assistant engineer Brice Hernandez, a key figure in ongoing investigations into alleged flood control project anomalies, has been returned to the custody of the Senate.
The transfer from Pasay City Jail occurred on Monday, with Hernandez arriving at the Senate at 10:10 a.m. and undergoing a medical examination, according to the Office of the Senate President.
The move follows the filing of a writ of amparo by Hernandez’s legal team with the Pasay Regional Trial Court Branch 112.
The writ sought a temporary protection order and placement under the witness protection program, citing concerns for Hernandez’s safety. “The Writ of Amparo was filed to secure his protection and ensure his freedom from threat and harm,” stated Atty. Ernest Levanza, Hernandez’s legal counsel.
Levanza welcomed the court’s order transferring Hernandez from Pasay City Jail to the Senate, stating, “With the court’s order transferring him from Pasay City Jail to the Senate, the risk to his safety has been significantly reduced. We welcome this positive and favorable development.”
Hernandez’s allegations of senatorial involvement in anomalous flood control projects, made during a House infrastructure committee hearing, have added complexity to the case, leading to heightened security concerns.
