THE Department of Justice (DOJ) has ensured that former president Rodrigo Duterte, along with others involved in the anti-drug campaign, are still not safe from a warrant of arrest.
During the Kapihan sa Department of Justice led by DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, it was emphasized that their office remains hands-off and they are currently studying how to respond in case a warrant of arrest is issued against the implicated officials.
The accused individuals in the case may potentially end up behind bars because they have no intention of obstructing the warrant of arrest from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The DoJ has no intention of preventing any actions by the International Police (Interpol) to carry out arrests against the former president and former PNP chief now Senator Rogelio “Bato” dela Rosa, along with other national police officials. The Secretary further explained that while the Philippines is no longer a member of the ICC, the Philippine government is still part of Interpol.
The country may face problems if it hinders Interpol from fulfilling its legal obligations.
Remulla clarified that they are in the process of studying how to respond if an arrest order from the International Criminal Court (ICC) is issued, which would then be served by Interpol.
