HOUSE Committee on Justice member Terry L. Ridon stated Friday that impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte, now with the Office of the Speaker, could be acted upon by the House plenary as early as next week. He noted that the complaints could also be sent directly to the Senate if enough lawmakers endorse them.
Ridon explained that the transmittal opens two possible tracks under the Constitution and House rules. He emphasized that one-third of all House members could endorse articles of impeachment against the Vice President for direct transmittal to the Senate, bypassing committee proceedings, as long as no plenary referral has been made to the House Committee on Justice.
Ridon cited the 19th Congress, where the House of Representatives impeached Duterte through the express route after 215 lawmakers endorsed the impeachment complaint against her.
Following the official transmittal of the impeachment complaints, Ridon anticipates that these will be included in the Order of Business of the House plenary for action as early as February 9, 2026.
