Iloilo First District Representative Janette Garin
HOUSE Deputy Majority Leader and Iloilo First District Representative Janette Garin expressed hopes that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will underscore the importance of addressing pressing national concerns during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.
Garin, a former health secretary, said she believes the President remains committed to uplifting the lives of the Filipino people and is expected to reinforce that commitment by prioritizing key issues on the ground.
“We truly believe that President Marcos has already been taking action to alleviate the plight of our people. We are hopeful that the other concerns raised by our constituents will likewise be addressed,” Garin said on Sunday.
As a doctor, Garin said she is particularly looking forward to hearing about improvements in the country’s healthcare system.
She also emphasized the need for greater efficiency in public service and stronger safeguards for the economy.
Among the key issues she hopes the President will address in his address are:
- Faster and more responsive government services, through the full implementation of anti-red tape policies and the adoption of a risk-based, streamlined approach across frontline agencies;
- Stronger anti-corruption measures and a more investor-friendly environment to spur job creation and economic growth;
- Enhanced regional cooperation, particularly in health and trade, with ASEAN neighbors;
- Improved access to affordable food, through decisive action against unscrupulous traders and anti-competitive practices that artificially inflate prices;
- A more responsive Department of Health, including the improvement of procurement systems to prevent recurring stockouts and bid failures affecting essential medicines and vaccines.
Garin reaffirmed her commitment to advancing reforms that are evidence-based, people-centered, and geared toward lasting national progress.
“Our constituents deserve solutions that truly respond to their everyday struggles. I remain committed to working closely with the administration and my fellow lawmakers to ensure these priorities are not just discussed, but delivered.”
