CAVITE 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga is facing a recommendation for delisting as a reservist in the Philippine Army due to social media posts deemed critical of the military and the police, according to Army spokesperson Colonel Louie Dema-ala.
The recommendation stems from a review of Barzaga’s online activity, where he allegedly made statements that could undermine public trust and confidence in the armed forces and law enforcement agencies. The Philippine Army takes such matters seriously, emphasizing that reservists, while civilians, are expected to uphold the integrity and reputation of the military.
Barzaga is facing delisting from the Philippine Army reserve force due to social media posts urging military personnel and reservists to join protests and declaring a loss of trust in the president by the armed forces. Army spokesperson Col. Louie de Ma-ala stated that these remarks were found to be a grave offense of misconduct following an internal investigation
The decision to recommend Barzaga’s delisting reflects the Army’s commitment to maintaining a non-partisan stance and ensuring that its reservists adhere to a code of conduct that aligns with the organization’s values. While freedom of expression is a constitutionally protected right, the military argues that reservists have a responsibility to exercise this right in a manner that does not compromise the institution’s credibility or create division within its ranks. The recommendation will now undergo further review and evaluation by higher authorities within the Philippine Army.
