A forensic expert from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday disclosed that the remains found in septic tanks at New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City were likely not of human origin, possibly belonging to a “chicken.”
Dr. Annalyne Dadiz, representing NBI’s Medico-Legal Division, shared the unit’s findings before the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights chaired by Sen. Francis Tolentino.
According to Dadiz, “It is not human bones. In all likelihood, based on comparative analysis, it appears to be consistent with a leg bone (from a chicken).”
The Senate committee was engaged in an inquiry regarding alleged mass graves within the densely populated national prison, as well as recurring concerns within correctional facilities.
The bones were discovered during a search operation for Michael Angelo Cataroja, an individual deprived of liberty (PDL) who went missing on July 15.
Initially, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla had stated that Cataroja’s decapitated body was located in a Bilibid septic tank.
However, he later acknowledged that this information was based on false news during a House committee hearing.
