VICE President Sara Duterte announced Wednesday that lawyer Michael Poa will serve as the spokesperson for her defense team during her upcoming impeachment trial.
Duterte made the announcement during a media interview, directing all inquiries regarding the impeachment proceedings to Poa. Poa, who previously served as Duterte’s spokesperson in both the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education, is one of sixteen lawyers comprising the Vice President’s defense team.
The Vice President is facing trial before the Senate impeachment court on charges of betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and other high crimes.
The impeachment complaint was filed in the House of Representatives on February 5th. The appointment of Poa as spokesperson signifies the formal commencement of the Vice President’s defense strategy and provides a central point of contact for media and public inquiries regarding the case.
