THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has announced that it will arrest Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa should he show up at the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte at the Senate. The police force confirmed it is ready to carry out the arrest warrant issued against him, which remains active and enforceable wherever he may be found.
According to PNP Public Information Chief Colonel Allen Rae Co, the order to serve the warrant is part of the police’s mandate to comply with legal processes. The case stems from proceedings at the International Criminal Court (ICC) related to the anti‑drug campaign implemented during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte. The PNP clarified that the action is based on existing legal requirements and must be executed whenever possible.
Dela Rosa has been in hiding since his last appearance at the Senate in May. He resumed staying out of public view shortly after leaving the Senate premises on May 14, apparently to avoid being taken into custody. His movements have been closely monitored, and the PNP has stated that any public appearance, including at the upcoming trial, will be considered an opportunity to serve the arrest order.
The impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte are set to begin on July 6. The case covers allegations of misuse of public funds, unexplained wealth, corruption, and threats against the life of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Meanwhile, the PNP said it will deploy enough personnel to ensure the trial proceeds in an orderly and peaceful manner, adding that no verified security threats have been reported so far.
