PhilHealth has announced that solo parents will be enrolled as principal members under the “indirect contributor” membership type with “solo parent” as the subtype
This move comes as a result of Republic Act 11861, which expands the coverage and benefits for single parents and their families.
“A revised PhilHealth membership registration form shall be issued to have the corresponding membership type and subtype for the solo parent,” the agency stated. However, only those with a valid solo parent identification card (SPIC) will be registered or tagged as indirect contributors – solo parent.
The circular advises applicants to secure their SPIC from the solo parents office/solo parents division of their local government unit before updating their membership record with PhilHealth.
Camarines Representative LRay Villafuerte, the lead author of RA 11861, previously announced the free health service for solo parents.
