PBBM says VP’s impeachment will not affect economy

admin February 6, 2025

THE impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte will not have any adverse impact on the Philippine economy, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said on Thursday.

“I doubt it very much,” President Marcos replied when asked how prepared the government is for the impeachment proceedings’ possible impact on the country’s economy.

“Wala naman akong nakikitang magiging effect na ganon,” the President added.

The President stressed that the government remains steadfast in its investment plans, strategies, and structural changes.

“Yun lang naman ang tinitingnan ng investors, so I don’t think it will have any effect,” the President said in referring to the impeachment proceedings.

At least 215 members of the House of Representatives signed the impeachment complaint against the Vice President, allowing it to be sent directly to the Senate for trial.

The impeachment complaint involves serious allegations, including a conspiracy to assassinate President Marcos, First Lady Liza Marcos, and Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

Other complaints include the malversation of PhP612.5 million in confidential funds, bribery and corruption within the Department of Education (DepEd),  unexplained wealth, and the failure to disclose assets.

The Vice President also faces allegations of involvement in extrajudicial killings, destabilization, insurrection, public disorder, and overall conduct while in office.
