THE Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Monday that more than 55,000 police officers and force multipliers will be deployed across the country to secure the opening of classes scheduled on June 8. This massive security coverage is part of the police force’s preparations to guarantee the safety and protection of students, teachers, school personnel, and commuters as educational institutions resume operations for the new academic year.
Police Brigadier General Rogelio Peñones Jr., acting chief of the PNP Directorate for Operations, confirmed that all deployment plans have been fully finalized and are ready for implementation. “We can see here that we will deploy not less than 55,000 personnel, including force multipliers nationwide,” Peñones stated, emphasizing that the mobilization aims to provide a safe environment in and around schools, as well as along major transport routes and thoroughfares frequented by the public.
These security measures are being carried out under the PNP’s annual Balik Eskwela operations, a standard program launched every school opening to prevent crime, maintain order, and assist the public. According to Peñones, the deployment follows established operational templates consistently used by police regional offices nationwide, ensuring uniform coverage and effective coordination between police units, local government units, and school authorities.
Beyond visible police presence, the security operation will also include monitoring of possible threats, traffic management support, and immediate response readiness to any untoward incidents. The PNP reassured the public that it remains fully committed to fulfilling its mandate of keeping communities safe, and called on the public and stakeholders to cooperate and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station for a smooth and secure start of the school year.
