NBI files case against spreaders of fake ‘Polvoron Video’ of PBBM

Metrosundaily April 12, 2025

THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed a case with the Department of Justice (DOJ) against those responsible for spreading a fake “polvoron video” depicting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed.

This development follows Malacañang’s announcement that they would leave the filing of charges against the perpetrators to the DOJ and NBI. Director Santiago stated, “We have already filed the case regarding that matter. You will know when the resolution comes out – we have already filed the case.”

The NBI’s action stems from revelations made during a House of Representatives Tri-Comm hearing, where resource speaker Atty. Harry Roque exposed the individuals behind the video’s dissemination.

Santiago emphasized that the video was used as evidence in relation to the information revealed during the Tri-Comm hearing. The NBI’s investigation and subsequent filing of charges highlight the seriousness of the issue and the government’s commitment to addressing the spread of misinformation.

The case against the individuals responsible for spreading the fake video is currently pending before the DOJ. The outcome of this case will have implications for the fight against disinformation and the protection of public figures from malicious attacks.

This incident underscores the importance of verifying information before sharing it and the need for responsible online behavior. The NBI’s action serves as a reminder that those who engage in the spread of false information can face legal consequences.
