WITH health authorities optimistic that restrictions could be relaxed even further with Covid-19 cases continuing to drop, Metro Manila mayors said they are “ready and willing” to implement Alert Level 0 in the National Capital Region (NCR) if it will be ordered by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID).
In a statement issued today, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Romando Artes disclosed, however, that there is still “no definite decision” from the Metro Manila Council (MMC) on possibly downgrading the present alert level status in NCR.
“We are waiting for the guidelines of IATF regarding the protocols under Alert Level 0 so we can discuss it in the Council. What we can say for certain is that all the Metro Manila Mayors are ready and willing to implement Alert Level 0 if mandated by IATF,” Artes pointed out.
Metro Manila is currently under Alert Level 1 until today and pending a final decision from the MMC and corroborated by the authorities, this could be lowered to 0.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III had earlier said that the government’s pandemic managers will discuss the guidelines for a possible Alert Level 0, which could end most of the health emergency restrictions in the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic
