AMID an investigation into questionable flood control projects, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has directed lifestyle checks for all government officials, as announced by Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro on Wednesday.
Marcos also emphasized the need for continuous checking of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) records related to the anomalous projects.
Castro said the lifestyle checks would initially focus on officials within the DPWH who are involved in the flood control projects under investigation.
She explained that various agencies, including the Office of the Ombudsman and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), could conduct these checks, depending on their jurisdiction. Castro assured that the lifestyle checks would be independent and non-partisan.
This announcement comes as Marcos expressed his anger over “ghost” flood control projects in Bulacan province, vowing to file cases against those involved in corrupt practices.
Marcos previously revealed that 20% of the total P545 billion budget for flood control projects was awarded to only 15 contractors. Castro also assured that all those involved in the anomalous projects, including provincial officials of Bulacan, would be included in the investigation.
