SENATOR Panfilo “Ping” Lacson voiced confidence on Tuesday that Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla will stand firm and not give in to pressure from the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), which is currently holding a large rally in support of Senator Rodante Marcoleta.
Lacson emphasized his trust in the Ombudsman’s resolve, describing him as someone with the unyielding character typical of a leader from Cavite.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Lacson stated: “Ombudsman Boying is tough as a Caviteño will always be. I trust that he won’t cave in to the INC rallies and pressure — not today, not tomorrow and certainly not when Senator Marcoleta’s plunder case is filed in court as earlier announced.” He also noted that while supporters may block thoroughfares and cause inconvenience to the public, the Philippine National Police is expected to ensure peace and order in the affected areas.
The protest began early Tuesday, catching many commuters by surprise and slowing down traffic along major roads. By 11:00 a.m., around 10,000 participants had gathered near the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City. The action came just one day after Remulla announced plans to file non‑bailable plunder charges against Marcoleta, citing roughly ₱75 million in undeclared campaign contributions.
For his part, Marcoleta has rejected the allegations and criticized the Ombudsman’s decision. He insisted he has not committed any wrongdoing and claimed the case is being pursued as retaliation for his oversight work, particularly his investigation into flood control projects during his tenure as chair of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
