THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) has announced that they have obtained details of an alleged Chinese spy who conducted espionage activities at Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) sites.
According to BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado, they were able to gather the suspect’s information through a review of their records. The BI learned that the unnamed 39-year-old Chinese man has been traveling in and out of the Philippines since 2015 and is reportedly married to a Filipina.
Viado stated that they have shared the information with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to support the investigation against the foreigner.
The BI Chief added that they will initiate deportation proceedings against the Chinese man to further augment the other charges that will be filed against him locally. The official clarified that they will not proceed with deportation until all local liabilities and penalties against the foreigner are resolved and served.
“We will ensure that we will identify any foreign cohorts that might be in the country assisting him,” said Viado. “These alleged spies have no place in the President’s Bagong Pilipinas. They will face serious punishment for their crimes,” warned the BI chief.
