LAWYER Princess Abante, spokesperson for the House of Representatives, has issued a statement denouncing Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte’s recent accusations against Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez regarding his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).
In her statement, Abante dismissed Mayor Duterte’s claims as “another baseless attempt to smear Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez,” labeling the figures cited by the mayor as “nothing but absurd fabrications—proof once again of the Dutertes’ penchant for fake news.”
Abante further criticized the Duterte family’s own record on transparency, stating, “What makes this even more ironic is that the Dutertes are known for keeping their own SALNs a closely guarded secret, refusing to make them public despite years in power. Now they dare lecture others about transparency? That is hypocrisy of the highest order.”
She emphasized that Speaker Romualdez’s SALN is filed in accordance with the law and is open for proper scrutiny, challenging the Dutertes to release their own SALNs to the public if they truly believe in accountability.
