House resumes sessions, Speaker vows to continue streak of legislative achievements

admin January 22, 2024

AT the resumption of regular sessions Monday, Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez expressed his enthusiasm and optimism for the House of Representatives (HRep) to continue its streak of legislative achievements.

He proudly announced how the HRep completed the passage of all 17 priority bills outlined in the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., aside from the ratification of one bicameral conference committee report, the approval of one measure currently subject to bicameral deliberations, and the passage of another 13 on Third and Final Reading.

He also congratulated his peers for approving 20 Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) priority measures three months ahead of schedule.

He urged House members to pass the Philippine Defense Industry Development Act, Amendments to the Electric Power Industry Reform Act, Budget Modernization Act and the National Defense Act.

Romualdez asked his colleagues to pursue plans to enhance assistance for vulnerable sectors, optimize government financial resources, and promote intergenerational management through the Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF).

He reiterated his call for a thorough review of the 1987 Constitution to allow foreign capital and direct investments in the economy and commended the initiative led by Senate President (SP) Juan Miguel Zubiri on Charter Change through a Constituent Assembly.

He welcomed the filing of Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) No. 6 by Zubiri, together with Senators Sonny Angara and Loren Legarda, which proposes amendments to specific economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution.

“With the help of the Senate and all Filipinos aspiring for change, our dream of opening the economy to attract the needed funds for creating more businesses, jobs, and livelihoods for Filipinos will soon be realized,” he added.
