admin January 22, 2024

PHILIPPINE National Police chief Police General Benjamin Acorda, Jr., on Monday reported that six personnel of the (PNP) have tested positive for shabu in a random check.

In a press conference, Acorda said a total of 4,614 personnel including 4,517 uniformed personnel and 97 non-uniformed personnel underwent random drug tests from January 1 to 18.

“Six individuals tested positive for methamphetamine,” Acorda said.

“Rest assured, the PNP will not tolerate such behavior, and we will ensure that appropriate charges are filed to address this issue and uphold the uncompromising principles of a drug-free police force,” he added.

The PNP conducted a total of 1,376 anti-illegal drugs operations during the same period. Authorities arrested 1,661 suspects and confiscated illegal drugs worth around P132.9 million.

“These efforts highlight our determination to eradicate the menace of illegal drugs from our communities, thereby safeguarding the well-being of our citizens,” Acorda said.

Since the Marcos administration from July 1, 2022 to January 3, 2024, the PNP said a total of 108 cops have been dismissed from the service due to drug-related offenses.

A total of 289 cops have been found involved in illegal drugs during the same period. Ten of them were demoted, 60 were suspended, and three were reprimanded.
