House committee ends probe into VP Sara’s alleged confi fund misuse

admin June 4, 2025

THE House of Representatives’ committee on good government and public accountability has concluded its investigation into the alleged misuse of confidential funds (CF) within Vice President Sara Duterte’s offices.

The panel’s decision to terminate the hearings, announced Wednesday, follows several sessions examining the CFs allocated to both the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd), where Duterte previously served as secretary.

The motion to end the hearings was made by Abang Lingkod party-list Representative Joseph Stephen Paduano and approved by committee chairperson and Manila 3rd District Representative Joel Chua. Paduano stated that all issues raised in connection with Privilege Speech No. 379 and the committee’s own inquiry into the matter had been addressed.

The motion was seconded by Representative Crispin Remulla, and no objections were raised. The committee adjourned immediately following the approval.

The committee’s investigation into the OVP and DepEd’s use of confidential funds played a significant role in the formation of an impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte.

While the details of the findings remain undisclosed pending the release of a formal report, the committee’s decision to close the inquiry marks a significant development in the ongoing political controversy surrounding the alleged misuse of public funds.

The nature and extent of any alleged misuse, and the committee’s conclusions regarding the matter, are expected to be detailed in the final report.
