TINGOG Party-list Rep. Jude A. Acidre on Thursday affirmed the House of Representatives’ accomplishments under House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez’s leadership, highlighting the passing of several Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) priority bills.
“Narinig na natin sa Speaker on many occasions that we passed, not only the LEDAC priority of the President, but even those that were mentioned in the State of the Nation Address (SONA) last year. Lahat ng ‘yon, naipasa na ng House,” the congressman said during a tele-radio interview on Thursday with Radyo 630, highlighting that the House passed priority bills way ahead of deadlines. “Marami doon landmark legislations, katulad ng Government Procurement Act na kasama sa Medium Term Economic Development Plan ng ating presidente.”
The House Chairperson for Overseas Workers Welfare is expecting for the upcoming 2024 SONA of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to give light to the Chief Executive’s priority legislations for the following year.
Key legislative priorities passed by the House were Ease of Doing Business, Digital Internet Transaction Bill, E-Governance Act.
The House is still expecting the Auditing Code to get the final nod as well as the Magna Carta of Seafarers, Revised Government Procurement Act.
“All of these are reflective of the economic priorities of the President and also, to hopefully help improve our socio-economic standing,” Rep. Acidre added.
He further noted that inflation remains a serious concern and a top priority for the House Speaker, highlighting the actions being taken by Congress to combat the rising prices.
Rep. Acidre mentioned the priority to amend the Rice Tariffication Law, proposing the suspension of restrictions on rice importations to stabilize prices. He added that the House is focusing on improving agricultural infrastructure, especially the irrigation system, to boost farmer productivity.
“Ang usapin ng pagtaas ng presyo is more complicated than it looks, especially when ipapasa natin ang supply and demand. Kaya tinitignan natin kung paano magkakaroon ng dagdag na konting pera ang isang Juan de la Cruz. Nagpapasalamat tayo sa wage boards na unti-unting tinitignan at nire-review ang ating minimum wages para lang masiguradong mas malaki ang naiuuwi ng ating mga kababayan,” he furthered.
The social amelioration program Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) is also seen as an important initiative to ensure social security for marginalized Filipinos, he concluded.
