SENATOR Risa Hontiveros has raised concerns regarding the citizenship of nickel businessman Joseph Sy, stating that records of his supposed Filipino parents are absent from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) database.
This revelation casts doubt on Sy’s claim of Filipino parentage and adds another layer of intrigue to ongoing investigations.
Sy’s documents reportedly identify his parents as Aida Samson Cue and Emilio Toledo Sy, who were allegedly married on June 18, 1964, in Balanga, Bataan.
However, upon requesting official documentation from the PSA, Senator Hontiveros discovered that no birth or death records exist for either individual. This absence of official records raises questions about the validity of Sy’s claim to Filipino citizenship.
The senator’s findings underscore the importance of verifying citizenship claims, particularly in cases involving individuals with significant business interests.
The lack of verifiable records for Sy’s alleged parents warrants further investigation to determine the accuracy of his claims and to ensure compliance with Philippine laws and regulations.
