SENATOR Risa Hontiveros has filed a cyberlibel complaint with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against Michael Maurilio and the Pagtanggol Valiente social media account.
The complaint stems from videos posted online where Maurilio alleges that Hontiveros influenced his testimony against former President Rodrigo Duterte, Vice President Sara Duterte, and Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
Hontiveros vehemently denies these claims, asserting that Maurilio’s testimony was given freely and without coercion.
The Senator’s legal action aims to uncover the individuals responsible for producing and disseminating the videos, which she contends are deliberately false and damaging to her reputation. She stressed the importance of holding those who spread misinformation accountable.
The complaint focuses on identifying the individuals behind the creation and distribution of the videos, as no one has yet claimed responsibility.
Maurilio’s allegations, which directly contradict his previous Senate testimony, have caused significant reputational harm to Senator Hontiveros.
The senator’s legal team is determined to pursue this case vigorously, seeking justice and accountability for the malicious spread of false information. The case highlights the growing concern over the use of social media to spread disinformation and the legal challenges in addressing such online attacks.
