HEALTHCARE workers who risked their lives during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic are finally set to receive their long-overdue benefits, bringing relief after months of waiting and mounting frustration.
The Department of Health (DOH) announced the release of over P6.7 billion for their Public Health Emergency Benefits and Allowances (PHEBA).
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) approved a Special Allotment Release Order to fund the remaining unpaid Health Emergency Allowance (HEA) for eligible healthcare and non-healthcare workers (HCWs and non-HCWs), according to Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa.
The PHEBA for Health Care Workers Act mandates that HCWs and non-HCWs employed in the healthcare sector receive an allowance for each month of service rendered during a public health emergency, such as the Covid-19 pandemic, based on their risk exposure. The release of these funds is expected to provide much-needed financial support to healthcare workers who have been waiting for these benefits for an extended period.
