ACTING Senate President and Senate President Pro Tempore Win Gatchalian has formally issued an advisory to all offices of the Senate, informing them of the special session called by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. scheduled for June 17.
The communication serves as an official notice and a direct call to every member of the upper chamber to set aside other commitments and attend the extraordinary gathering, which aims to address urgent legislative measures amid current national concerns.
In his statement, Gatchalian extended a clear invitation to his colleagues, emphasizing the importance of their presence and participation. “I invite our colleagues to attend and take part in the process. The Senate must continue its work, fulfill its mandate, and respond to the needs of the country,” he said. His message underscored the principle that public service does not pause when Congress is out of session, and that lawmakers have a constitutional duty to act promptly on matters that affect the welfare of the Filipino people.
The move aligns with the President’s directive to fast‑track key social protection laws and other priority bills that have already reached advanced stages of deliberation.
By convening ahead of the regular session, the Senate aims to ensure that critical measures are passed without delay, especially in light of recent calamities and economic challenges. Gatchalian’s call reflects a unified commitment to uphold the institution’s role and deliver tangible results for the public, reinforcing the Senate’s role as a responsive and active partner in nation‑building.
