IN a shocking development, former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo has implicated Senator Chiz Escudero in alleged anomalous flood control deals, claiming he personally delivered ₱160 million in kickbacks to the senator’s associate.
Bernardo, who recently resigned from his post amid the escalating corruption scandal within the DPWH, testified that the ₱160 million represented 20% of the total value of ₱800 million worth of government projects. He alleges that the money was intended for Senator Escudero and was delivered to a friend and campaign contributor of the senator.
Senator Escudero, who was recently ousted as Senate president amidst the widening corruption scandal, has vehemently denied any involvement in the controversy. These new allegations, however, are likely to intensify scrutiny on the senator and further fuel the ongoing investigation into corruption within the DPWH.
