FORMER DENR secretary Roy Cimatu will be invited to appear before the House Committee on Public Accounts in connection with the Manila Bay Dolomite Beach project, according to Bicol Saro Rep. Terry Ridon, who chairs the committee.
Cimatu will be asked to explain the origins of the controversial project and why he permitted it to proceed despite it not being included in the Manila Bay Sustainable Development Master Plan. Questions also persist regarding the project’s consistency with the Supreme Court’s Continuing Mandamus on the rehabilitation of Manila Bay. As DENR Secretary, Cimatu held ultimate responsibility for the Manila Bay rehabilitation efforts, encompassing both the conception and execution of the Dolomite Beach project.
