PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered a one-month postponement of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) rehabilitation project, citing concerns from Metro Manila residents and recommendations from experts.
The announcement was made Sunday by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
Dizon stated that President Marcos instructed the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to “go back to the drawing board” and revamp its plans. The President’s decision followed feedback from concerned citizens and input from experts who suggested more efficient methods and technologies could expedite the project. The rehabilitation, originally scheduled to commence in mid-June, will now be delayed for at least one month.
The DOTr is tasked with revising the project’s scope and timeline within the next month. T
he delay is intended to incorporate the feedback received and leverage more effective approaches and advanced technologies to minimize disruptions and maximize efficiency. The revised plans will be presented to President Marcos before the project resumes.
Further details regarding the specific changes to the project’s design and implementation are expected to be released following the DOTr’s review and revisions. The government remains committed to improving Edsa’s infrastructure, but the delay underscores a commitment to addressing public concerns and optimizing the project’s execution.
