THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) confirmed on Wednesday that Montrexis Tamayo, a Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) official implicated in the flood control corruption scandal, is now in their custody. Tamayo, who served as the OIC-chief of the DPWH Planning and Design Division, was brought to the Sandiganbayan.
CIDG acting director Police Major General Robert Morico II confirmed Tamayo’s custody to reporters, stating that it was “for the return of the Warrant of Arrest and commitment sa designated jail facility.” This development marks another step in the ongoing investigation into the alleged corruption surrounding flood control projects within the DPWH.
Tamayo faces graft and malversation charges related to a P289-million substandard flood control project in Oriental Mindoro. On November 24, eight of the 16 individuals accused in the case appeared before the Sandiganbayan. Seven were ordered detained at the Quezon City Jail, while DPWH accountant Juliet Calvo was granted bail due to facing only a graft charge.
The following accused individuals are yet to surrender or be arrested: Resigned Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co, who also previously chaired the House appropriations panel; Timojen Sacar, a DPWH materials engineer; Aderman Alcazar, president and board chair of Sunwest Construction; Cesar Buenaventura, treasurer and board member of Sunwest Construction; Consuelo Aldon, board member of Sunwest Construction; Engr. Noel Yap Cao, board member of Sunwest Construction; and Anthony Ngo, board member of Sunwest Construction.
