THE Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has called on the public to continue praying for Pope Francis, who remains in critical condition at Gemelli Hospital in Rome, where he was admitted on February 14.
The Vatican reported on Sunday, February 23, that the Pope had a peaceful night. “The night passed uneventfully, the Pope rested,” according to the Vatican update.
Cardinal Jose Advincula and Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David led vigil prayers in the Philippines for the Pope’s recovery. Both cardinals are among the 138 cardinals under 80 years old who are eligible to vote in a conclave to elect a new pope.
Cardinal David led a Mass for the Pope on Thursday evening at the Cathedral of San Roque in Caloocan, dedicated to the patron saint of the sick and suffering. “May I ask for your prayers for his healing and recovery during this challenging time,” said David, who is also the CBCP president.
On Friday, the eve of the Feast of Saint Peter, the first pope of the Catholic Church, Cardinal Advincula led a “Holy Hour for the Healing of Pope Francis” at the Manila Cathedral.
