SENATOR Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa has requested to use the Senate Mansion as a residence for his family, citing personal reasons and the need for a secure and convenient home within the government compound.
The senator expressed his interest in utilizing the historic property, which has long served as a residence for senators and Senate officials, to provide his family with a comfortable and accessible living space during his term.
However, a Senate official has indicated that the request is unlikely to be granted at this time due to ongoing repair and maintenance works on the Senate Mansion.
The repairs are part of the Senate’s efforts to preserve the historic building and ensure its safety and functionality for future use. The ongoing renovation is expected to take some time, making the mansion temporarily unavailable for any occupancy.
The Senate official explained that the repairs are necessary to address structural issues and upgrade the facilities to meet modern standards. They emphasized that the Senate remains committed to maintaining the historic integrity of the mansion while ensuring it is safe and suitable for official functions and future residents. As a result, the possibility of using the mansion as a family residence during the repairs is considered highly unlikely.
While the request may not be feasible currently, the Senate continues to explore alternative arrangements for senators and their families. The official added that the Senate is dedicated to supporting its members and their families, but the preservation and safety of the historic mansion take precedence. The ongoing repairs are vital for safeguarding the property’s heritage value and ensuring it remains a symbol of the Senate’s history and tradition.
