IN line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to bolster border security and intensify the fight against illegal drugs, the Bureau of Customs – Port of Clark, together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Clark Inter-Agency Task Force Against Illegal Drugs (CRK-IATFAID), successfully intercepted a shipment containing approximately 17,500 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu.

The illegal drugs, with an estimated street value of ₱119 million, were found concealed inside crystal resin countertops.

The shipment, originating from Las Vegas and destined for Makati City, was flagged after receiving derogatory information from PDEA. Upon arrival, the parcel underwent X-ray scanning, which revealed suspicious images that prompted further inspection. A subsequent K9 sweep by PDEA agents indicated the presence of illegal substances, leading authorities to conduct a thorough physical examination.

During the inspection, authorities uncovered two black rectangular resin blocks hidden within the countertops, containing white crystalline substances suspected to be methamphetamine hydrochloride. The total weight of the seized drugs was approximately 17,500 grams. Laboratory tests later confirmed that the substances were indeed methamphetamine hydrochloride, classified as a dangerous drug under Republic Act No. 9165.

A Warrant of Seizure and Detention was issued by District Collector Jairus S. Reyes against the shipment for breaking certain rules in the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) related to dangerous drugs. No. 9165. District Collector Reyes praised the vigilance and coordination of Customs personnel and partner agencies, emphasizing that teamwork is vital in safeguarding borders and communities from the dangers of illegal drugs. Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno also highlighted the importance of strong inter-agency collaboration to maintain a secure border and prevent illegal substances from reaching the public.
