MISAMIS Occidental has officially been declared insurgency-free after more than 50 years of facing threats from guerilla fronts Joji and Sendong of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC).
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. presided over the declaration ceremony held at the Tangub City Global College Sports Complex on Friday.
The declaration follows the dismantling of the final rebel group in December 2023, as announced by Major General Gabriel Viray, commander of the Philippine Army’s 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division.
Misamis Occidental Governor Henry Oaminal expressed gratitude for the successful collaboration with military forces, highlighting the importance of unity in achieving peace and order in every community.
“This milestone is a testament to the strength of our unity, and what we can achieve when we lead and work with it in our minds and our hearts,” Oaminal stated.
