ARMED Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. on Wednesday categorically denied reports that he is taking over the security detail of Vice President Sara Duterte.
“Hindi po totoo na I will take over the VPSPG (Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group). It is still under the Presidential Security Command,” Brawner told reporters in an ambush interview.
Brawner’s statement comes amidst a wave of controversy surrounding Duterte’s recent revelation that she had spoken to an individual she allegedly instructed to kill President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez, should she be assassinated.
The Vice President’s comments have sparked widespread concern and condemnation, with many questioning the seriousness of her remarks and the potential implications for national security.
Brawner’s denial of any involvement in the VP’s security detail appears to be an attempt to distance the AFP from the ongoing controversy and reaffirm the Presidential Security Command’s (PSC) role in protecting the Vice President.
The situation highlights the delicate balance between security protocols and political tensions, particularly as the Vice President’s statements raise concerns about potential threats to national leaders. The public is closely watching how the government will respond to these developments and ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
