Metro Manila solons issue manifesto of support for Speaker amid political tensions

admin November 27, 2024

FIVE Metro Manila lawmakers have issued a statement of support for House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, calling for calm and unity amidst recent political tensions.

The statement, signed by Caloocan City 1st District Rep. Oscar Malapitan, Pasay City Rep. Antonio Calixto, Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo, Muntinlupa City Rep. Jaime Fresnedi, and Parañaque City 1st District Rep. Edwin Olivarez, expresses their unwavering support for Speaker Romualdez’s leadership.

“We call for calm, reflection, and insight that we may focus on better serving our nation and the interest of the Filipino people,” the statement reads.

The manifesto comes at a time of heightened political discourse, with recent controversies and statements from various political figures raising concerns about potential divisions within the government.

The Metro Manila solons’ statement appears to be a show of solidarity with Speaker Romualdez and a call for unity within the House of Representatives. It emphasizes the importance of focusing on national priorities and serving the Filipino people, amidst the current political climate.

The statement’s timing and content suggest a desire to de-escalate tensions and refocus attention on legislative priorities. It remains to be seen how this public display of support will impact the political landscape and the direction of the House of Representatives moving forward.
