TINGOG Party-list Rep. Jude A. Acidre was recently appointed as a Commissioner of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2), the national body responsible for conducting an in-depth assessment and evaluation of the Philippine education system’s overall performance.
“I am honored to take on this responsibility. The future of our nation hinges on a well-educated citizenry, and EDCOM 2 will play a crucial role in ensuring that our education system adapts to the needs of our rapidly changing world,” said the lawmaker.
EDCOM 2 focuses on addressing issues such as access, quality, and the alignment of education to global standards, such as efforts to identify gaps in the current system and proposing reforms that enhance learning outcomes and teacher quality, aiming to make the education sector more responsive to national development goals.
The legislator’s appointment is aligned with his advocacy for education. During his first term as congressman, he, in collaborative effort with Rep. Yedda Romualdez of Tingog Partylist, had principally authored several legislative measures aimed at improving educational access and quality, such as the Local Universities and Colleges Governance Act; the Equitable Access to Math and Science Education Act; the Geographically Isolated Disadvantaged Conflict-Inflicted Areas and All Roads to All Learners Act; and the State Universities and Colleges Mental Health Service Act. His history of championing such legislative measures with and through Tingog Partylist further strengthens his ability to drive meaningful reforms within the commission.
“We must focus not only on increasing access but also on improving the quality of education and ensuring that it is aligned with the skills and competencies needed in today’s world. This is a pivotal moment for us to reimagine education in the Philippines,” Rep. Acidre furthered.
“We are building the foundation for an education system that not only meets but exceeds global standards.”
