THE Philippine National Police (PNP) considers the withdrawal of some 600 members of Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) from the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) as a major leap towards achieving a peaceful community.
Last February 9, the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 3 facilitated the mass exodus which was highlighted through the signing of the Oath of Allegiance, denouncing terrorism.
“We hope that with this activity, all the other groups affiliated with communist or terrorist groups will follow suit. Their withdrawal from the CPP-NPA shows that they have a weak force,” PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos said.
The PNP vows to monitor their security as the possibility for threat and intimidation are still apparent.
“Those who pledged to dissociate themselves from the CPP-NPA will be taken care of. Their act is a display of confidence for the government, so we will prove to them that they made the right decision,” Carlos said acknowledging that this is a result of the unceasing effort to intensify the peace engagement in the communities.
