FOUR Pinoy personnel on board resupply mission boat to BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal were injured after two China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels water cannoned their boat.
In a statement, the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) said CCG’s water cannons shattered the wind shield of the resupply boat, Unaizah May 4, which injured four Filipinos.
They were immediately treated by Philippine Coast Guard personnel.
Due to the damage and injuries, the Philippine resupply boat returned before going back to its resupply mission.
NTF-WPS highlighted the resupply mission to BRP Sierra Madre was successful despite the incident.
The task force condemned China’s “unprovoked acts of coercion and dangerous maneuvers,” emphasizing its commitment to exercising legal rights over the country’s maritime zones, and acting peacefully and responsibly in accordance with international law.
“The Philippines will not be deterred from exercising our legal rights over our maritime zones, including Ayungin Shoal which forms part of our Exclusive Economic Zone and continental shelf. We demand that China demonstrate that it is a responsible and trustworthy member of the international community,” NTF-WPS added.
