THERE were still 31 security detail, including police officers, assigned to protect Vice President Sara Duterte said Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil.
Mabil clarified that Duterte originally had 106 PNP escorts supplementing the military-led Presidential Security Command (PSC) personnel assigned to her.
Duterte earlier issued a statement that “all 75” PNP escorts assigned to her were relieved by Marbil.
“Maliit lang ang portion na tinanggal natin sa security ng ating minamahal na VP. On the part of the PNP, we have 106 PNP personnel. Ang naiwan sa kanya is 31 – seven officers and 24 PNCOs (non-commissioned officers),” Marbil told reporters.
He reiterated that the decision to pull out the police escorts from Duterte’s security detail was not political and had been done in consultation with her office.
“We requested the Office of the Vice President for a possible pull out of our 75 personnel because we really need our personnel on the ground in the National Capital Region, and they agreed,” Marbil said.
