THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) places its Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) in Taiwan on high alert following two magnitude 5.9 earthquakes that rocked the island within minutes of each other late Monday afternoon.
There are no immediate reports of injuries among overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), but MWOs in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung are reaching out to Filipino leaders, communities, employers, and trade associations to ascertain the status of OFWs.
MWOs and Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA) Offices are working with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), headed by Chairman Silvestre H. Bello III, to monitor the situation.
Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration (CWA) reported the first quake at 5:45 p.m.; the second followed seven minutes later at 5:52 p.m. Earthquakes have rocked the island since last month.
